Karen Wagner

Karen Wagner is the Chief Financial Officer for the National Wildlife Federation. In this role, she is responsible for leading the Finance team in all aspects of the Business Planning and Analysis, Financial Systems, Accounting, and Treasury functions as well as general oversight of the financial and related business activities across the entire organization. Wagner serves as the Treasurer for the Board of Directors and is the primary staff liaison with the Finance, Audit and Risk, and Investment Committees of the Board.

With over 25 years of financial and nonprofit management experience, Wagner acts as a strategic partner with leadership across the organization and works closely with the CEO and fellow executive team members to maximize investment and human capital opportunities and to ensure organizational effectiveness is a top priority. Formerly as the Vice President of Finance and since becoming CFO, she has undertaken several projects and initiatives to enhance business operations and strengthen the overall financial position of the National Wildlife Federation. By encouraging innovation, implementing data-driven decisions, and focusing on process improvements, Wagner has been instrumental to increasing the funding and resources needed to fuel significant growth in the National Wildlife Federation’s mission critical programmatic work.

Wagner received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Richmond and is a member of The CFO Environmental Roundtable. She lives in Virginia with her husband and enjoys birding and kayaking.
